Responsibilities

Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, a part of the Pacific Northwest Division of CommonSpirit, is actively seeking a full-time NP/PA to join our esteemed Neurology team in Tacoma, WA.  

Position Overview

-Work closely with a team of neurohospitalists and/or a stroke neurologist to provide care to neurovascular (stroke and TIA) patients.

-Provide inpatient consultative care and oversight to stroke and TIA patients admitted to SJMC.

-Provide outpatient care to TIA patients through the Neurovascular Clinic.

-Provide other outpatient care as necessary to neurovascular patients.  For example, outpatient follow-up care for a patient recently discharged for stroke.

-Maintain ambulatory practice for ongoing care of more complicated neurovascular patients.

-Member of the Stroke Team and assists with obtaining/maintaining State and national certifications, particularly as a Comprehensive Stroke Center.

-Interface with providers from other specialties in the care of our neurovascular patients.  For example, neuro-interventional radiology, neuroradiology, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, and internal medicine.

-Provide education to nursing staff in order to enhance patient care.

-Participate in Neuroscience Service Line Quality Committee as it pertains to neurovascular care.

Hospital Overview

St Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) is a 375 bed, Level II Trauma Center located in Tacoma.  SJMC has earned the Gold Seal of Approval for Primary Stroke Centers from The Joint Commission, Gold Plus Achievement Award and Target: Stroke Honor Roll for Get With The Guidelines from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

Qualifications

Qualifications/Requirements:

  • Master's degree in Nursing or Physician Assistant Studies
  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant  program.
  • Current WA State PA or RN/ARNP license with prescriptive authority.
  • CPR certification.
  • AANP, ANCC or PAC certification.
  • BCLS required.
  • SCRN Certification Preferred
  • 2 years of previous NP/PA experience preferred within the Neurosciences or, in lieu of Nurse Practitioner experience, 3-5 years as an RN in a Neuro or Rehab unit.
