Responsibilities
Virginia Mason Franciscan Health, a part of the Northwest Division of CommonSpirit, is actively seeking a full-time Nurse Practitioner to join our esteemed Neurology team in Tacoma, WA.
Position Overview
-Utilize the full scope of practice and licensure to work collaboratively with a team of neurohospitalists to provide specialty care to neurovascular (stroke and TIA) patients.
-Provide inpatient consultative care and clinical oversight for stroke and TIA patients admitted to VMFH hospitals including the comprehensive stroke center at St. Joseph Medical Center.
-Respond to in-hospital stroke emergencies as the primary stroke consultant.
-Provide urgent outpatient consultation and follow up care to TIA patients and those with subacute stroke in clinic or virtually.
-Provide routine outpatient neurovascular services to ensure continuity of care and adherence to evidence-based secondary stroke prevention measures after discharge from VMFH hospitals.
-Support local Stroke Leadership Teams, assisting with ongoing stroke center certifications and quality improvement projects.
-Participate in clinical and translational neurovascular research with opportunities to serve as a primary investigator and contribute to peer reviewed publications.
-Interface with providers from other specialties in the care of our neurovascular patients such as neuro-interventional radiology, neuroradiology, neurosurgery, vascular surgery, and internal medicine.
-Provide education to medical and nursing staff to ensure clinical consistency and awareness of updated evidence-based stroke care.

Hospital Overview
St Joseph Medical Center (SJMC) is a 375 bed, Level II Trauma Center located in Tacoma. SJMC has earned the Gold Seal of Approval for Primary Stroke Centers from The Joint Commission, Gold Plus Achievement Award and Target: Stroke Honor Roll for Get With The Guidelines from the American Heart Association/American Stroke Association.

Qualifications
Qualifications/Requirements:
•Master's degree or doctorate in Nursing.
•Successful completion of an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
•Current WA State RN/ARNP license with prescriptive authority.
•BLS for healthcare providers
-ACLS (may be completed during onboarding)
- Successful completion of the NET-SMART AP vascular neurology fellowship program or equivalent vascular neurology program within 2 years of employment OR Certification as an Advanced Neurovascular Practitioner (ANVP) or eligibility to sit for ANVP exam upon hire and successful completion of the exam within 1 year of employment
Preferred:
-Certification as an Advanced Neurovascular Practitioner (ANVP) or eligibility to sit for the ANVP exam
Or
-Acute care nurse practitioner
Or
•2 years of previous NP experience within the neurosciences, critical care medicine, or hospital based internal medicine
Or
-2 years of prior experience as a Registered Nurse working with acute neurologic diseases within the last 5 years
