Overview

Located in sunny Phoenix, Dignity Health Medical Group Pediatrics is a major teaching site for Creighton University School of Medicine medical students, Creighton Alliance Family Medicine residents, and Phoenix Children’s Hospital Pediatric Residency Program. Our practice is committed to advancing the holistic health care of infants, children, and adolescents through innovative medical care, research, education, training, and advocacy.

Dignity Health Medical Group works in partnership with St Joseph Hospital Medical Center (SJHMC), the oldest ACS-verified Level I trauma center in central Phoenix. Our team’s focus is driven around being leaders in education, centered on evidenced based medicine while ensuring consistent collaboration and communications within the team. Our orthopedic trauma team consists of multiple physicians and advanced practitioners, who partner with both hospital physicians and our trauma surgeons in order to provide the best possible care to our patients.

SJHMC evaluated 100,00 patients in the emergency department and 3,800 trauma patients (up 7%/year, 85% blunt) last year. The trauma bay consists of 10 bays with advanced digital imaging, splinting/orthotic coverage, and anesthesia support.  We have excellent subspecialty support, including Nine fellowship trained trauma surgeons, dedicated 24/7 trauma room, 120+ ICU rooms, Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI), Norton Thoracic Institute (NTI), and a Team S (special hospitalist service only for the surgical services). 

PHOENIX, ARIZONA:

Phoenix, valley of the sun, is the 5th largest city in the US with approximately 5M people.   It has been the fastest growing city the past 5 years in a row.  Within the same day, one can ski or hike in Flagstaff or Sedona or swim in the pacific ocean.  The Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Lake Havasu, Sedona, Mt Lemon, Salt River, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Pleasant, and Seguro Lake are all within driving distance.  We are a 5 hour drive or 1 hour flight from San Diego or Las Vegas.  The weather is awesome 9 months a year with 340+ sunny days a year.  When the summer weather is hot you can hop in your pool or drive 2 hours away where the weather is always 30 degrees cooler.  Centrally, Phoenix has an 8 square mile park with elevation gains of 1200 feet.  The city is connected with endless canal connections to ride your bike, run, or walk.

Responsibilities

We are looking for a Pediatrician to participate primarily in the care of patients under the care of Dignity Health Medical Group’s Pediatric practice in the outpatient and inpatient newborn settings.

  • Education and clinical oversight of learners in general clinic, continuity clinic,and newborn nursery

  • Activities include but are not limited to: care of patients, teaching and supervising learners, performing medical student and resident assessments, feedback and written evaluations, oversight of education and quality improvement activities and clinic performance metrics, maintenance of an educational environment conducive to educating medical students and residents in both LCME and ACGME competency areas

  • Oversees, prepares and presents ambulatory didactic curriculum

  • Support for administrative, strategic and operational planning for the clinic in collaboration with residency and clinical leadership.

  • Serve roles as Mentor and Faculty Advisor

  • Participation on clinical, quality, administrative and medical education committees

  • May have roles as Core Faculty and Advisor, support and maintain residency program curricula

  • Opportunities to collaborate and/or lead efforts related to community health and advocacy training within the teaching programs

  • Clinical time in general pediatrics

  • Additional expectations include:

Qualifications
  • MD or DO Degree
  • Board Certification/Eligibility
  • Must have or be eligible for medical licensure in Arizona.
  • PALS certification
  • Completed ACGME Residency training program
  • Ability to achieve full and unrestricted hospital privileges at Dignity Health Arizona hospitals
  • A passion for providing clinically excellent care
