The posted compensation range of $374,400 - $600,000 /year is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic (HBP) Surgeon in alignment with the Dignity Health Cancer Institute (DHCI), Dignity Health Medical Group (DHMG), and Creighton School of Medicine, you will help patients with complex liver, bile duct, and pancreatic cancers access advanced surgical treatments and comprehensive multidisciplinary care so they can achieve optimal health outcomes and improved quality of life. This position will partner with the newly appointed Chief of Surgical Oncology and the Chair of the  Surgery Department.

In this role, you will play a pivotal role in developing and expanding our Hepatobiliary and Pancreatic Surgery program and the newly formed Digestive Disease Institute. You will be expected to partner with surgical oncology leadership, facilitate clinical trials, drive quality improvement initiatives, participate in tumor boards, and contribute to the growth of a disease-site specific cancer program. Our disease-site specific, comprehensive, multidisciplinary cancer program continues to grow in volume, programs and clinical trials.  Our academic involvement with the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance residency programs also continues to grow.  

To be successful in this role, you must be a skilled and dedicated HBP Surgeon with expertise in complex oncologic resections, a commitment to multidisciplinary collaboration, and a passion for programmatic development, clinical research, and quality improvement within a growing academic environment.

Job Requirements

Required:

  • Fellowship-trained and Board Certified 
  • Active or eligible license in the state of Arizona
  • Ability to achieve full and unrestricted hospital/surgical privileges at Dignity Health Arizona hospitals
  • Teaching and clinical trial experience

Where You'll Work

The Dignity Health Cancer Institute is a 10 year old, beautiful, 220,000 s.f., dedicated outpatient oncology facility located on the Phoenix Biomedical Campus.  The Campus is less than 2 miles from St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, in the heart of Phoenix, AZ.  Other residents of the Phoenix Biomed Campus include The University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Translational Genomics and a host of biomedical startup companies.  DHCI offers comprehensive oncology services including dedicated disease-site specialists for Breast, GYN, GI, HPB, GU, Thoracic, Head & Neck, Melanoma & soft tissue Sarcoma and Supportive Care/Survivorship services. The Cancer Institute services also include Infusion, Radiation, Diagnostic Imaging, Interventional Radiology, Endoscopy, Genetic Counseling, Social Work, Clinical Nutrition and Sexual Health after Cancer services. 

SJHMC is a 571-bed, not-for-profit hospital that provides a wide range of health, social and support services.  Founded in 1895 by the Sisters of Mercy, St. Joseph's was the first hospital in the Phoenix area, is the flagship hospital of Dignity Health, and a member of CommonSpirit Health, the largest not-for-profit health system in the US.  More than 125 years later, St. Joseph's remains dedicated to its mission of caring for the poor and underserved.
