The posted compensation range of $610,000 - $610,000 / year is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. Job Summary and Responsibilities

CHI Health Creighton University Medical Center – Bergan Mercy is seeking a fellowship-trained Critical Care Anesthesiologist to join our cardiovascular and surgical critical care team in Omaha, Nebraska. This is a high acuity growing role for physicians who want to shape an active practice in both the operating room and intensive care unit, while training our new anesthesiology residents. 

This position is structured to ensure physicians can maintain both ICU and anesthesiology skills.

  • Active ECMO program with strong institutional support
  • Multidisciplinary team that values intensivist leadership at the bedside 
  • Work at a 391-bed, Level I Trauma Center with a broad and complex patient population
  • Academic medical center with a newly approved Anesthesiology Residency Program launching 2026
  • CUMC Bergan serves as the referral center for our partner hospitals across Nebraska with regular collaboration on transfers, consultations, and system wide protocol development 
  • EPIC EMR across the system
  • Schedule designed to protect both clinical excellence and quality of life. 

Operating Room Responsibilities

  • Provide anesthetic care across a full spectrum of surgical services
  • Supervise and collaborate with CRNAs, medical students, and residents in a team-based environment

Critical Care Responsibilities

  • 18 Bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit
  • Provide care in high-acuity ICU settings, including surgical and trauma populations
  • Manage complex patients including:
    • Trauma and postoperative surgical patients
    • Respiratory failure, sepsis, and multi-organ dysfunction
  • Utilize advanced heart failure therapies such as ECMO and Impella
  • Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and care coordination

Academic Appointment

  • Academic appointment with Creighton University School of Medicine
  • Active involvement in:
    • Resident education within a newly launched anesthesiology residency
    • Teaching medical students 
  • Opportunity to help shape critical care anesthesia education and curriculum within a new program
  • Participation in research, quality improvement, and program development
  • Opportunity to contribute to critical care anesthesia fellowship development (if applicable/desired)

Schedule & Call Structure

  • Balanced scheduling model designed to protect both OR and ICU time
  • 7 days of ICU coverage followed by 7 day recovery week
  • 5-day blocks of OR anesthesiology coverage with no baseline OR call obligation.

Job Requirements
  • MD or DO degree
  • Completion of an ACGME-accredited Anesthesiology Residency
  • Fellowship training in Critical Care Medicine (ACCM/anesthesiology-based CCM preferred)
  • Board certified or board eligible in Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine
  • Eligible for medical licensure in Nebraska
