Job Summary and Responsibilities

St. Vincent Infirmary is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our dedicated CVICU team for the overnight shift (7:00pm - 7:00am). The CVICU NP will play a crucial role in managing the care of critically ill cardiac and vascular patients, collaborating closely with attending physicians, residents, nurses, and other interdisciplinary team members. This position offers a unique opportunity to provide expert advanced practice care during critical hours, contributing significantly to positive patient outcomes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive physical assessments, interpret diagnostic tests, and formulate treatment plans for critically ill CVICU patients.
  • Manage a wide range of cardiac conditions, including post-cardiac surgery, heart failure, myocardial infarction, arrhythmias, and patients requiring mechanical circulatory support.
  • Monitor and manage patients with complex vascular conditions.
  • Order, interpret, and evaluate laboratory and imaging studies.
  • Perform or assist with procedures within the scope of practice, such as central line insertion, arterial line insertion, intubation, and chest tube management, as credentialed.
  • Prescribe medications and other therapies according to established protocols and prescriptive authority.
  • Provide timely and effective communication with attending physicians, residents, and the interdisciplinary team regarding patient status, changes, and concerns.
  • Educate patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment plans, and prognoses in a clear and empathetic manner.
  • Participate in daily rounds, critical care conferences, and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough electronic medical records.
  • Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Act as a resource and mentor for nursing staff, promoting a culture of continuous learning and excellence.

Job Requirements
  • Master's or Doctorate degree in Nursing from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program.
  • Current, unencumbered Arkansas Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure.
  • Current national certification as an Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) or Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP).
  • DEA registration (or eligible to obtain).
  • BLS and ACLS certification required. CCRN certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of recent experience as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner in a CVICU or equivalent critical care setting required.
  • Demonstrated expertise in managing complex cardiac and vascular critical care patients.
  • Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound clinical decisions under pressure during overnight hours.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems.
  • Commitment to providing patient-centered, high-quality care.
