Located in the Phoenix Ariz. suburb of Chandler the Chandler Regional Medical Center is a 338-bed not-for-profit hospital with more than 2500 employees and almost 1000 doctors on staff representing all major specialties. Chandler Regional joined the Dignity Health system in 1999 but has been part of the community for more than 50 years. The hospital includes a Level I Trauma Center a Heart and Vascular Center a Wound Healing Center a Family Birth Center and many additional services. Responsibilities
The Neurosurgery Nurse Practitioner is responsible for delivering care to patients admitted to Neurosurgery at Chandler Regional Medical Center.
- Provides patient care within the scope of practice as set forth by the Arizona State Board of Nursing
- Obtains medical history, performs physical examinations, formulates differential diagnosis and establishes a treatment plan in collaboration with the treating physician and nursing staff.
- Orders and interprets laboratory and other diagnostic tests within scope of practice.
- Writes orders and prescribes medications, including controlled substances.
- Instructs and counsels patients and their family regarding the diagnosis, treatment plan and medications.
- Makes referrals to ancillary departments and outside agencies.
- Formulates discharge plan and works in collaboration with case management to ensure safe, timely discharge.
- Writes discharge prescriptions and educates patients on medications.
- Completes hospital and department documentation legibly, accurately and within designated timeframe.
- Works in collaboration with sponsoring physician, case management and staff nurses to provide patient care.
- Complies with legal restrictions regarding lines of authority, supervision and communication.
- Acts as a liaison between physicians, nursing departments, ancillary staff on behalf of patients and their families.
- Ensures that all care is consistent with current evidence-based practice.
- Provides patient/family education in coordination with nursing staff.
- Assists with coordination of performance improvement initiatives, including outcome evaluations and action planning as required.
- Communicates with leadership regarding any issues concerning service, personnel, patients or families.
- Participates in multi-disciplinary rounds.
- Serves as a role model mentor for nursing staff. Precepts Nurse Practitioner students after one year of employment
Qualifications
MINIMUM
Master's Degree from an accredited school of nursing required.
3 years experience as NP required
Current AZ RN license
Current AZ Nurse Practitioner license
National Certification in a Nurse Practitioner specialty (ANP, ACNP, FNP)
Current DEA certificate
American Heart Association BLS
American Heart Association ACLS
Credentialed as allied health professional with CRMC and MGMC required.
PREFERRED
1 year Experience as Neurosurgery NP
CNRN or CCRN
