Emergency Medicine | Director of Medical Students and Resident Recruitment

Dignity Health Medical Group is seeking a dynamic leader to shape the future of medical education as the Director of Medical Students & Resident Recruitment for the Dignity Health East Valley Emergency Medicine Residency Program. We are seeking a motivated candidate who shares our vision to become the premier emergency medicine training program in the state and region. In this role, the candidate will assume primary oversight of the medical student curriculum, engage with multiple local medical schools, and help to recruit diverse applicants to our innovative program.  

Dignity Health Medical Group is the employed physician group serving the Arizona Service Area. Covering over 45 practice sites, complementing clinical services with translational and bench research, our integrated medical group employs in excess of 300 healthcare providers throughout the valley. The successful candidate will work clinically and in a core faculty role at the following sites:

Chandler Regional Medical Center, a full-service, high acuity 429-bed level 1 trauma center, with approximately 78,000 emergency department and over 5,000 trauma activations annually. It is a primary stroke and STEMI center with comprehensive services in multiple subspecialties. 

Mercy Gilbert Medical Center, a busy community hospital seeing over 45,000 patients visits a year.  It will soon be a Level 3 trauma center, and is a primary stroke and STEMI center. It is the site of the brand new Women and Children’s Pavilion at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center which will host a brand new pediatric Emergency Department in conjunction with Phoenix Children’s Hospital. 

EMERGENCY MEDICINE RESIDENCY PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Received initial accreditation in January 2023 and launched in July 2024 
  • 8 residents per year
  • Located in the desirable communities of Chandler and Gilbert, Arizona
  • Coordinate medical student activities and teach at a Level 1 trauma center and comprehensive stroke center with diverse pathology
  • Full simulation center on site with high fidelity manikins and dedicated simulation staff 
  • Cohesive core faculty group with strong support from program director/coordinator, hospital administration, department chair, and medical group 
  • Annual CME allotment
  • Established acting internship curriculum with >25 students annually, utilize VSLO for applications 
  • Existing strong relationship with local medical schools

Responsibilities

RESIDENT RECRUITMENT DIRECTOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Continue to implement a comprehensive recruitment strategy for medical students and residents
  • Assist program director with management of all aspects of the recruitment process, including:
    • Identifying and engaging with prospective students and residents
    • Planning and executing recruitment events, including open houses, interviews, and virtual tours
    • Attending in person recruitment events (i.e., ACEP and/or SAEM)
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including medical schools, residency programs, and professional organizations
  • Organize medical student curriculum for medical student-related experiences and activities, including acting internship rotation and other student programming 

CORE FACULTY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in at least 20% of didactic sessions (conference) 
  • Participate in at least 50% of quarterly faculty development sessions related to medical student and resident education
  • Attend at least 75% of quarterly core faculty meetings 
  • Participate in annual scholarly activity 
  • Serve on clinical competency committee, program evaluation committee, interview selection committee, or hospital committees as directed by program director 
  • Participate in a variety of didactic, simulation, and procedural teaching of medical students and residents 

CLINICAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • 70% clinical / 30% protected time for the academic position
  • Work clinically in the Emergency Departments at Chandler Regional Medical Center and Mercy Gilbert Medical Center. These are busy clinical sites with high acuity and a high admission rate.  
  • Physicians will see patients independently, as well as with our residents, medical students and experienced and highly skilled Advanced Practice Providers.  
  • Shifts will also be available in the Pediatric Emergency Department in the Women’s and Children’s Pavilion at Mercy Gilbert Medical Center when it opens (anticipated early 2025).  

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • MD or DO Degree and Active Board Certification or Board Eligible
  • Must have or be eligible for Arizona State medical licensure
  • Valid DEA certificate
  • Completed ACGME Residency training
  • Ability to achieve full and unrestricted hospital privileges at Dignity Health Arizona hospitals
  • Is a team-oriented provider that is passionate about providing quality care and furthering the healing ministry, while serving the poor and underprivileged
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Passion for education and a commitment to the healthcare profession
  • Experience in medical student or resident education preferred
