The Marian Regional Medical Center Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program is a ACGME-accredited experience designed to provide residents with fundamental knowledge, skills and experience to become excellent OB/GYN physicians and skilled women's health care providers. The program is committed to training the next generation of doctors to provide exceptional women’s health care, particularly addressing the increasing shortage in rural areas.

The program focuses on the care of underserved patients, as Santa Maria, California is designated as a health service shortage area. Training occurs at the Marian Regional Medical Center, Santa Maria Women’s Health Center and Mission Hope Cancer Center, serving a diverse patient population including migrant farmer workers, military families and owners of large estate vineyards.
Upon graduation, residents are prepared to be knowledgeable and skilled women’s health care providers, equipped with the skills necessary to become leaders in education, patient advocacy, community outreach, quality improvement, wellness and clinical excellence.

This ACGME-accredited program offers a comprehensive educational experience that prepares residents to become skilled OB/GYN physicians and compassionate women's healthcare providers. Through diverse clinical training, residents develop the expertise and confidence needed to care for patients across the full spectrum of obstetrics and gynecology. The program accepts three residents each year.
The first year provides foundational training in Introduction to Clinical OB/GYN, Obstetrics, Gynecology, Night Float, Emergency medicine, Integrative medicine and Ultrasound, Float, and Clinic rotations.
The second year offers expanded clinical responsibility through rotations in Night Float, Obstetrics/Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Clinic, Reproductive Endocrinology & Infertility, and Float rotations.
The third year prepares residents for independent practice with rotations in Night Float, Obstetrics/Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecology, Gynecologic Oncology, Family Planning, Urogynecology, Elective or Global Health, and Float rotations.
The fourth year focuses on advanced clinical leadership with rotations in Obstetrics/Maternal Fetal Medicine, Gynecology, Gynecologic oncology, Urogynecology, Float, Evidence Based OB/GYN.
Residents have opportunities to participate in seminars, simulations, academic research, journal club, M&M, and other small group activities. The program has integrative medicine and state-of-the-art surgical and obstetric simulation equipment integrated into the formal curriculum.
Night Float rotations are integrated into all four PGY years, providing comprehensive experience with overnight patient care responsibilities.
The program provides training in basic and advanced surgical procedures, including robotic surgery for gynecologic cancers and complex benign gynecologic surgical problems. Residents also gain experience in transvaginal ultrasound, female pelvic reconstruction and urologic associated conditions.
Residents participate in academic research, journal club and M&M conferences. The program emphasizes training clinicians with skills necessary to become leaders in quality improvement.
Elective rotations are available in PGY-3 with options for Global Health, and PGY-4 allows for flexibility to design individual electives at the discretion of the Program Director.
Collaborative culture, strict adherence to work hour restrictions, wellness hours for personal needs, 5th Thursdays off from didactics, faculty-resident events, formal mentorship/commensality meals.
Training occurs across multiple sites, centered at Marian Regional Medical Center, serving a wide spectrum of patients across a large service area.
