The posted compensation range of $710,000 - $770,000 /year is a reasonable estimate that extends from the lowest to the highest pay CommonSpirit in good faith believes it might pay for this particular job, based on the circumstances at the time of posting. CommonSpirit may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range as permitted by law.

Creighton University - CHI Health Chief of Thoracic Surgery 

The Department of Surgery at Creighton University Medical Center CHI Health is excited to recruit an academic Chief of Thoracic Surgery to be part of our vibrant program and expand our clinical, research, and educational activities in conjunction with our Department of Surgery, Pulmonary Medicine, and Lynch Cancer Center.

At Creighton University Medical Center, our Department of Surgery & Section of Pulmonary Medicine are one of the nation’s highest quality, award-winning programs. Thoracic Surgery program is part of our integrated, multispecialty system, working with the members of interventional medical and surgical teams, committed to the highest quality and outcomes.

In addition, our program is further augmented by our many other resources associated with our academic institution including our inpatient and outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program  

Resident activity with the department of surgery is highly engaging at our University Medical Center and Level I Trauma Center.  The department of surgery trains over 25 residents and fellows, while our section of Pulmonary and Critical Medicine trains 15 fellows, year over year.

Candidates will be working in an academic and teaching environment educating Creighton University’s surgical residents and medical students and conducting research in collaboration with scientists within Common Spirit Health and the Creighton University School of Medicine.  Founded by the merger of Dignity Health and Catholic Health Initiatives in 2019, Common Spirit Health is the largest Catholic health system and the second-largest nonprofit hospital chain in the United States.

The ideal candidate will be board certified in thoracic surgery with fellowship training in non-cardiac thoracic surgery, clinical experience in the management of thoracic diseases, and training in minimally invasive surgery and/or robotic assisted surgery and a desire to develop and lead an integrated thoracic oncology program. In addition, the candidate should have a strong academic interest and participate in resident education and clinical research. A minimum of 5 years of experience with demonstrated leadership skills is preferred. Also, the ideal candidate to have a track record of scholarly and educational activities at the level of Associate Professor at Creighton University School of Medicine.   

    • Has expertise in robotic thoracic surgery skills 
    • Works collaboratively with our foregut/minimally invasive surgery and pulmonary medicine teams.
    • Working in an academic and teaching environment educating Creighton University’s surgical residents and medical students and conducting research in collaboration with scientists within Common Spirit and Creighton University School of Medicine.
