As the Department Chair of Family and Community Medicine at Creighton University & CHI Health, you will be a  recognized academic physician leader to serve as Professor & Chair of Family & Community Medicine and expand our clinical, research, and educational activities.

Every day you will provide leadership to an established and rich department encompassing one of the largest departments within Creighton University School of Medicine and CHI Health Clinic. This department operates within a combined hospital & clinical  setting with a large integrated healthcare system. The department's clinical training and patient-care missions are delivered in partnership with CHI Health, the University’s academic health system. In alignment, the Creighton School of Medicine and CHI Health integrate biomedical discovery with high-quality, innovative clinical care. This partnership offers students and trainees hands-on experience across diverse hospitals, clinics, and community settings, thereby advancing the health of the region through clinical programs, scientific research, and community engagement.  Clinical expertise across the region is advanced through new Family Health Centers (FHC).  These new centers are a result of system wide investment offering a cutting edge level of care & convenience for entire families.   

To be successful in this role, you will be a collaborative and visionary leader who brings demonstrated success leading an academic unit of comparable complexity with experience in building multidisciplinary partnerships, advancing research and innovation, and mentoring faculty and trainees.  Candidates must be Board-certified in Family Medicine with an M.D., D.O., or M.D./Ph.D., and eligible for Nebraska licensure. 

Further Details of the Family and Community Medicine Chair Position Include:

• Reporting to the Dean of Creighton University School of Medicine and President of the CHI Clinic Enterprise 
• Provide overall academic, clinical, and administrative leadership for the Department of Family & Community Medicine, setting strategic direction and aligning the Department’s faculty, clinical operations while serving as the Clinical Service Unit Leader within the CHI Health Physician Enterprise
• Time dedicated to clinical service will be expected
• Collaborating with Health System leadership to optimize operational efficacy, clinical access, and service reliability; directing departmental operations and fiscal performance and cultivating robust enterprise-wide alliances to elevate the Department's reputation and patient impact 
• Advances the educational mission by supporting a high-quality GME program and a strong learning environment
• Establishes a robust health systems science/ health services research infrastructure, leveraging among other sources the data strengths afforded by the national scale of CommonSpirit Health.  Competes successfully for external funding, and establishes a culture of scholarly discourse and productivity.
• Develops a cohesive culture and shared strategic vision; recruits, mentors, and retains faculty and staff to meet the evolving needs of a growing academic Health System

Required

• Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited institution

• Board certification or eligibility from the American Board of Family Medicine (ABFM)

• Active or eligible license in the state of Nebraska 

• Credentials appropriate for an appointment at the rank of associate professor or professor (clinical scholar or tenure pathway) 

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with healthcare professionals

• Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment

• Proven and substantial leadership experience is required, as well as the ability to be a collaborative and inclusive leader
